The Road,by Cormac McCarthy, a fictional novel with a optimistic tone, shows the demise of the protagonist the Dad helps illuminates the bond of a son and father in a hopeless land. The setting of the novel gives the reader an idea how bad the situation and the need for survival. The Dad who seems to be wise, tells his son, "you forget what you want to remember and you remember what you want to forget." (page 12). In the world that they are is very hard to keep the good memories of what the world used to be, since all the evil things seem to take over their thoughts. this shows that the Dad is advising his soon to keep the good memories and to not let the bad things get to him because that will shadow his only way of positivism. In their search for the south the father carried with him a revolver with two bullets and after the encounter of a danger the man uses the weapon leaving,"a single round left in the revolver. You will not face the truth. You will not." (page 68). This demonstrates that now there was one left bullet the Dad was most likely to use that bullet to take away his Son's life, which he denies to do in despite of recognizing that if he doesn't do it when the time comes his son will face torture and terrible other things. It gives the reader the insight to the strength of his love to his son, that himself saw him being born, and now he wont let the truth sink that he'll have to take it away. When the Dad dies the Boy unites with another team of survivors, "he tried to talk to God but the best thing was to talk to his father and he did talk to him and he did not forget." (page 286) This shows that the Boy kept his father's memory alive, by remembering him and not forgetting about him. It proved wrong in a way what his father had told him before, that what he would want to remember he'll forget, which wasn't the case. The reader can infer that the boy is started to become more mature and wise. The death of the father seem to happen when the boy started to mature. The love of a son and a father was incomparable, but the Dad did what he could to give his son what he needed for survival and good memories, which he will cherish for the rest of his journey.

The TEAR essay shows a good understanding of the prompt that is being asked. it shows good insight and development of the analysis. One area that could be improved on is that the essay could show more details so it can be easier to understand by people who haven't read the book.

I would give this essay a score of a 5 for the reason being If i was to read this with no knowledge of the book i still wouldn't know what is going on or have clue of what is going on.
